Each brushstroke and kiln-fired creation at Catalyst Creative Arts serves as more than just crafts. The family-owned studio in Downtown Arlington’s Urban Union is a community connector. Their 2nd Annual Art Market on November 7th will feature 8 local artists, live music from Sky Seo Jazz Trio, and more. Visitors are invited to support their local artists and small businesses at this free public event.

On a chilly December night in 2018, Jaime Marum, Co-owner and Operator of a then Carrollton based art studio, sipped on craft beer and enjoyed live music in the Legal Draft taproom. The packed holiday event was the first time he would visit the Arlington Brewery. “It was a cool vibe what was going on in the area,” explained Jaime.

The experience inspired Jaime to join the thriving Urban Union in Downtown Arlington starting with a slew of pop-ups inside Legal Draft. Nearly a year later, Jaime made the decision to open Catalyst Creative Arts as a storefront in Downtown Arlington.

The art studio would quickly become an active player in the Arlington small business community offering classes, parties, and community events for painting, hand-built pottery, fused glass creations, and many more creative mediums for patrons to experiment with.

Constantly innovating, the team at Catalyst Creative Arts regularly finds new ways to help Arlington residents craft, create, and build. Custom-built water marbling trays for silk would make their studio one of the few in DFW to offer this unique practice.

The pandemic’s devastating impact on Arlington’s creative economy couldn’t stop Jaime and the team at Catalyst Creative Arts from creating new ways to continue to support artists and the arts. Saturday, November 7th, from 1-6 pm the studio will host The 2nd Annual Art Market giving 8 local artists space to showcase and sell their art.

Each local artist attending the market has a distinguished style and uniqueness.

Right now more than ever local artists and small businesses are depending on their communities to shop small. Independently-owned businesses in Arlington represent the scrappy, ambitious, and resilient spirit of our ever-evolving city. In the words of Jaime, supporting small businesses could “bridge the gap between feast and famine”.

Choosing to shop local is an investment in our community and its development. Shopping local is more than a trend; it is a marketplace symbol of solidarity for consumers in the midst of a pandemic.
